Microbats are often not seen or heard on our camping trips, but we have thousands of them in our bushland!
You very rarely see them as they make no noise, are tiny, and active only during the warmer months at night.
Microbats are the most common and diverse mammal group in the Mallee bush and the floodplains.

Minister for Water, Lisa Neville has appointed two new members to the Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA) Board.
In addition to two new members, Mallee CMA welcomes new Chair, Allison McTaggart, who has served on the Mallee CMA Board since 2017. Allison takes over from Sharyon Peart who chaired the Board for 10 years, and will continue to contribute to the CMA as a Board Director.

After months of planning the first spring delivery of water for the environment has commenced in the Mallee. The Mallee wetlands are home to some very unique animals and are a haven for waterbirds. It’s vital to maintain and improve the condition of the plants and trees within the wetlands to ensure they can continue to provide food and shelter for many threatened and rare animals.

Catchment Management Authority is calling for budding citizen scientists to
help monitor frogs in our local wetlands. Getting involved is easy, simply
download the free Australian Museums FrogID app on your smart phone, head out
to the closest wetland, listen for frog calls, record the sound with the app
and press ‘submit’.

A significant watering event during autumn at the Ramsar listed Hattah-Kulkyne National Park is providing great outcomes for the environment and the community.
The environmental watering commenced in early May and was completed in mid-June, and allowed water to be pumped into 11 of the 18 lakes in the system, with nine of these lakes designated Ramsar wetlands.

The Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is calling for applications to join the Land and Water Advisory Committee (LWAC).
Members of the LWAC provide guidance on community engagement and advise the Mallee CMA on its projects, plans and programs, from a community perspective.

After stakeholder consultation and feedback, the Victorian Mallee Irrigation Regional Land and Water Management plan has been finalised and released. The plan aims to help local growers continue to implement best-practice irrigation techniques, and continues the positive work of the previous plans, including salinity management plans.

The Mallee Irrigation Incentive Program is a specific program for irrigators in the Mallee Catchment Management Authority (CMA) region. The program aims to encourage better water use efficiency on-farm through improved irrigation management, enhancing farm production while minimising or reducing impacts on the environment.

Planning is underway to deliver water to Mallee wetlands and floodplains across 61 sites, as set out in the Mallee Catchment Authority’s (CMA) Seasonal Watering Plan for 2021-22.
This is supported by the Victorian Government’s $224 million investment in waterways and catchments over the next four years.

Mallee Catchment Management Authority’s (CMA) Working for Victoria crews are kicking goals in the region said Acting General Manager Operations and Community, Nicole Wishart. The employment program is helping Victorian jobseekers find work and employers find workers. The program focuses on people who have lost their jobs and organisations who need workers due to the impacts of COVID-19.
